Students at GSU realize the advantage of being in downtown Atlanta. Many students have partnered up with local businesses to raise awareness, support and donations for their organizations and the causes for which they advocate.
Sigma Sigma Rho has teamed up with NaanStop to raise donations for their cause, Raksha, a family services center. NaanStop will donate 10 percent of its total sales on March 26th. Hopefully a lot of people will be in the mood for Indian cuisine that day!
Sigma Lambda Upsilon and Señoritas Latina Unidas Sorority recently partnered with Johnny Rockets for Operation Eyecare, a project of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation for which the organization will collect cell phones, glasses and sunglasses for developing and disaster-stricken nations overseas, uninsured Georgians and battered women. Parts of scratched and broken glasses are given to local artists and fashion students and made into wearable dresses for the annual Night of Spectacles fundraiser, a combination fashion show and silent auction that raises more than $200,000 for the foundation’s clinic, surgery and hearing aid programs.
The GSU Alumni Association will host its first day of service, GSU Cares. Alumni, students, family and friends will volunteer together at various community service projects across Metro Atlanta March 9. Projects focus on animal welfare, health and welfare, homeless and housing services, youth and children and environmental preservation.
GSU students and organizations give back to the community in so many ways, and it is great that they continue to be resourceful in their efforts. I am sincerely interested in the different ways students give back, so plea
se post in the comments section and share a little about your cause.
